This is one single screen for both infestations, and is undertaken on one single sample from the same animal at the same time. The tests in this combined deal cannot be split.
A combined screen offers excellent value and is suitable for dogs and cats. The screen conveniently and economically allows you to undertake both giardia and cryptosporidium testing, offering a saving compared to ordering the screens separately.
Cryptosporidium is a microscopic protozoan parasite that causes the gastrointestinal disease cryptosporidiosis that can infect animals and humans (zoonosis).
Please note this test is a specific screen which is only suitable for dogs and cats. As it is an advanced screen which works to detect the dog or cat’s specific immune response to the infection, it will not work for other animal or humans.
Typical symptoms in animals may include diarrhoea, vomiting, weight loss and loss of appetite.
Giardia is a gut dwelling protozoan animal which is commonly picked up from drinking contaminated water. It is highly contagious between pets and can also be passed onto humans. Very often a Giardia burden is asymptotic within dogs and cats, but it can still be spread to other animals and potentially humans at this point. If symptoms are present within your dog or cat, they may include intermittent vomiting and/or diarrhoea as well as lethargy and weight loss.
Please note this test is a specific screen which is only suitable for dogs and cats. As it is an advanced screen which works to detect the dog or cat’s specific immune response to the infection, it will not work for other animal or humans.
This screen is for dogs and cats only for the detection of cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia antigens.
This is one single screen for both infestations, and is undertaken on the same sample at the same time.
The testing procedure adopted within our lab identifies antigens rather than oocysts as this is a more accurate measure than looking for cysts using microscopy methods as the oocysts have a very short, fragile lifecycle and are shed intermittently. Statistically, no test can ever be claimed to be 100% for sensitivity however, based on research undertaken by an external board, compared to other brands of antigen tests and testing methods, the test adopted by Wormcount.com is incredibly accurate (for specificity and sensitivity); which is why we have chosen to adopt this method as our standard practice.
There is a ‘use by date’ on each kit which MUST be adhered to. The use by date will always be a minimum of 4 weeks from date of order. Unfortunately, no refunds can be given for late submission or unused tests however please contact the office to discuss options if this occurs.
If undertaking a retest post treatment, we recommend waiting at least 3 weeks before retesting following completion of the course of treatment. Please consider the timescales and use-by dates when ordering a kit.
This kit has been designed to provide ultimate sample protection during transit, whilst also minimising our environmental impact as far as practically possible. The kit includes:
