A Quadsave offers excellent value for money and is suitable for cats and dogs. The screen conveniently and economically allows you to undertake the following tests:
The Quadsave offers considerable savings compared to ordering the tests separately.
A worm count test involves the examination of a faecal sample to check for internal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms. Detecting these parasites is critical because they can lead to various health issues, including malnutrition, weight loss, and digestive problems.
Lungworm tests play a vital role in identifying the presence of lungworm larvae in the respiratory system. These parasites can cause severe respiratory distress and coughing in dogs and cats. Early detection through testing allows for early treatment, which can prevent potentially life-threatening complications.
Giardia and cryptosporidium are protozoan parasites that cause gastrointestinal infections. Symptoms include diarrhoea, vomiting, and dehydration. Detecting these parasites at an early stage enables the administration of appropriate treatment, reducing the risk of transmission to other animals or even humans, as certain strains can pose a zoonotic threat.
Three separate samples are required for this screen; a separate one day sample will be used for each of the worm count, giardia & cryptosporidium tests. A three day sample will be used to screen for lungworm.
The kits come with full instructions of the requirements, and we recommend they are read and followed exactly.
Cryptosporidium is a microscopic protozoan parasite that causes the gastrointestinal disease cryptosporidiosis that can infect animals and humans (zoonosis).
Please note this test is a specific screen which is only suitable for dogs and cats. As it is an advanced screen which works to detect the dog or cat’s specific immune response to the infection, it will not work for other animal or humans.
Typical symptoms in animals may include diarrhoea, vomiting, weight loss and loss of appetite.
Giardia is a protozoan parasite that resides in the gastrointestinal tract and is often contracted through the consumption of contaminated water. This parasite is highly contagious among pets and can also be transmitted to humans. In many cases, dogs and cats may carry giardia without displaying any symptoms, yet they can still spread the infection to other animals and potentially to humans. If your dog or cat does exhibit symptoms, these may include intermittent vomiting, diarrhoea, as well as lethargy and weight loss.
Please be aware that this test is specifically designed for dogs and cats. It is an advanced screening method that detects the unique immune response of dogs and cats to the infection, and it is not suitable for testing other animals or humans.
Report 1 – Worm Count Test
Tested and issued the same working day the sample arrives into the lab. The worm egg screen will identify and quantify of all species present within the family groups of:
In addition, as standard, this screen also reports on:
*Tapeworms are very intermittent shedders and do not always show on a worm egg screen. If present in the sample, the species will be identified. As they may not have been present when the sample was taken, it is advisable to use regular tapeworm specific treatment.
Report 2 – Giardia & Cryptosporidium Test
Tested and issued the same working day the sample arrives into the lab. Using antigen technology, a separate report will be provided detailing the presence or absence of giardia and cryptosporidium antigens.
Report 3 – Lungworm Test
The test is commenced the same working day that it arrives into the lab. As it is an extended screen, it runs overnight and the results are issued the following working day. The report will include all species of lungworm currently present in the UK associated with the specific type of animal (i.e. dog or cat) being screened.
If your dog or cat has been outside the UK, please contact us.
This test pack comes with complete instructions for each portion of the test. Please note that it requires two one day and a three-day sample. Please take the samples from the first motion of the day and store the lungworm samples at room temperature whilst collecting.
There is a ‘use by date’ on each kit which MUST be adhered to. The use by date will always be a minimum of 4 weeks from date of order. Unfortunately, no refunds can be given for late submission or unused tests however please contact the office to discuss options if this occurs.
If undertaking a retest post treatment, we recommend waiting at least 3 weeks before retesting following completion of the course of treatment. Please consider the timescales and use-by dates when ordering a kit.
