Our Extended Reptile Panel (Level 2) provides broader parasite screening than a reptile worm count alone. It combines microscopic examination of the faecal sample with targeted Cryptosporidium antigen testing.
The worm count component screens for gastrointestinal parasites and protozoa commonly found in reptiles. Where appropriate, we also quantify parasite eggs and oocysts to help indicate the level detected.
The screen may identify:
In addition, the panel includes targeted Cryptosporidium & Giardia antigen testing. This provides an additional level of screening beyond microscopy alone.
Sample collection: This panel is for one reptile. Ideally, collect faecal material over at least three days. If your reptile does not pass faeces every day, samples from two separate bowel movements may be suitable as long as they span at least three days.
If your reptile passes faeces infrequently, please contact us. We can advise you on the most suitable sample collection method for your individual circumstances.
Return postage: The kit includes Tracked 24 return postage to our laboratory.
Use-by date: The kit has a use-by date of at least four weeks from the point of order. Please return the sample before the date shown on the kit.
After treatment: We recommend waiting approximately three weeks after completing parasite treatment before carrying out this test.
All samples are examined by trained laboratory staff, and you will receive a clear laboratory report with free after-test advice where required.
Our Extended Reptile Panel (Level 2) combines a reptile worm count with targeted Cryptosporidium antigen testing.
Our laboratory team uses microscopy to screen the faecal sample for gastrointestinal worm eggs, oocysts and relevant protozoa. Where appropriate, we also quantify the level detected.
The additional Cryptosporidium & Giardia antigen test provides broader screening than a worm count alone.
Sample collection: Collect faecal material from one reptile over at least three days where possible.
Use-by date: The kit has a use-by date of at least four weeks from the point of order.
After treatment: We recommend testing approximately three weeks after parasite treatment has finished.
Tracked 24 return postage, clear laboratory results and free after-test advice are included.
The report includes findings from microscopy and targeted Cryptosporidium antigen testing.
Microscopy: We identify and, where appropriate, quantify relevant nematodes, including ascarids, hookworms, pinworms and trichurid-type eggs. We also report cestodes (tapeworms), coccidia and relevant protozoal findings, including commensal ciliated protozoa such as Balantidium.
Cryptosporidium antigen testing: We report whether Cryptosporidium antigen was detected in the submitted sample.
Findings are reported according to the reptile species submitted and the relevance of each organism.
Wormcount testing is completed, reviewed and issued within 24 hours of arrival into the laboratory. Antigen testing is completed, reviewed and issued within 24 hours of arrival into the laboratory. This test must be used before the published use by date on the lab request form, due to reagent stability. The usage window will be at least 6 weeks from the point of order, athough we will always provide as long as is possible.
