Our Worm Count Test for Horses, also known as an equine faecal egg count (FEC), measures gastrointestinal worm eggs in your horse’s faecal sample.
Regular worm counts help horse owners and vets make informed decisions about parasite treatment. They support a targeted, risk-based approach to parasite control. This can reduce unnecessary worming and help slow the development of anthelmintic resistance.
Our trained laboratory team examines each sample using microscopy. We identify and quantify gastrointestinal parasite eggs and report the result as eggs per gram (EPG).
Regular testing can help you decide whether your horse requires treatment. It also provides a useful way to monitor parasite levels over time.
At no additional charge, we also assess excess fibre within the sample. This may provide useful supporting information when reviewing digestive or dental health.

The equine screen identifies and quantifies relevant parasite groups including redworms, ascarids, pinworms, stomach worms and neck worms. Tapeworm segments are reported if present. The report also includes Eimeria leuckarti and a qualitative assessment of excess undigested fibre.
Wormcount testing is completed, reviewed and issued within 24 hours of arrival into the laboratory.
This kit is for one animal and includes a recyclable padded return envelope, free tracked 24-hour return postage, a laboratory request form and instruction sheet, a recyclable sample collection box in a resealable write-on bag, a biodegradable second sealable bag and a biodegradable natural wood sampling spoon.
