Our Combined Worm Count and Lungworm Test for Cats provides laboratory screening for gastrointestinal parasites and feline lungworm in one convenient package.
The combined test uses separate laboratory methods to identify intestinal parasite eggs and oocysts and screen for feline respiratory parasite larvae and eggs. Together, these findings support a test-led approach to parasite monitoring and informed treatment decisions.
This package combines two complementary laboratory screens:
The combined package can help when both intestinal parasites and lungworm need to be considered. For example, it may suit:
The kit includes instructions and the collection materials needed for both components.
Collect one fresh, representative faecal sample for the worm count. In addition, the lungworm component requires faecal material collected over three consecutive days in a separate sample.
Our laboratory team processes each sample using the appropriate method. As the procedures have different turnaround times, we may email the two results separately.
Every combined pack includes clear laboratory reports and free after-test advice where required.
Our Cat Triple Pack adds a Giardia antigen test to the worm count and lungworm screen. This provides broader parasite screening from one order.
Our Combined Worm Count and Lungworm Test for Cats includes two complementary laboratory screening procedures. Together, they assess gastrointestinal parasite shedding and feline lungworm.
Using microscopy, our laboratory team examines a fresh faecal sample for the listed feline roundworms, hookworms, tapeworm eggs and Cystoisospora spp.
Where appropriate, we also quantify findings as eggs per gram (EPG) or oocysts per gram (OPG).
A separate pooled sample collected over three consecutive days is examined using specialist larval detection for Aelurostrongylus abstrusus and faecal microscopy for Eucoleus aerophilus eggs.
Together, these methods screen for the two named respiratory parasite targets rather than relying on larval detection alone.
Our trained laboratory team reviews each component and reports the findings separately. In addition, the worm count report includes qualitative findings and any relevant visual observations of sample artefacts.
Clear laboratory reports and free after-test advice are included where required.
Our Combined Worm Count and Lungworm Test for Cats provides separate laboratory findings for the gastrointestinal worm count and feline respiratory parasite screen.
The feline worm count report covers the following gastrointestinal parasite targets.
The listed nematode findings are quantified as eggs per gram (EPG), where appropriate. A result of <20 EPG is recorded as Below detectable limit.
Cestode eggs and Cystoisospora spp. are reported qualitatively, including whether they were seen in the submitted sample.
The report may also record other artefacts observed in the submitted faecal sample.
Our extended feline respiratory parasite screen examines the faecal sample for the following targets:
The laboratory report records the detection of relevant lungworm larvae or respiratory parasite eggs. Where the findings allow, we provide identification and explanatory comments.
A negative faecal result cannot completely exclude infection because larvae or eggs may be shed intermittently.
Parasites may shed eggs, oocysts or larvae intermittently. Therefore, a result below the detectable limit, or a qualitative result of none seen, does not completely exclude infection.
Our trained laboratory team reviews the findings before emailing the results. The different components may be reported separately as each is completed.
Clear laboratory reporting and free after-test advice are included where required.
Worm count: Our laboratory team completes, reviews and emails results within 24 hours of the sample arriving at our laboratory.
Lungworm screen: This extended procedure takes longer than a routine worm count. Results are issued on the next working day following arrival at our laboratory.
Sample collection: A fresh representative sample is required for the worm count. In addition, a separate pooled lungworm sample must be collected over three consecutive days.
Because the components require different laboratory methods, results may be issued separately as each part is completed.
This kit is prepared for one cat and includes the materials needed to collect and return the required faecal sample or samples to our laboratory.
For the lungworm component, the instructions explain how to collect faecal material over three consecutive days.
