Our Breeder Worm Count Pack helps breeders monitor gastrointestinal parasites during pregnancy, after whelping and during the puppies’ first few weeks of life.
The programme includes three laboratory worm counts at important stages. First, test the bitch on or just after day 40 of pregnancy. Then test her again between 21 and 25 days after whelping. The pack also includes a pooled worm count for the puppies during the same post-whelp period.
Parasite monitoring at these stages gives breeders useful information about parasite egg shedding in the bitch and her litter. The results can then support more informed parasite-control decisions.
The pooled puppy worm count provides an early overview of the litter. Later individual puppy screens can provide more information about each puppy before it leaves for its new home.
Please collect the pooled puppy sample between 21 and 25 days after whelping. We recommend collecting it at around day 23 where possible.
A pooled sample provides an overview of the litter. However, it cannot show the parasite burden of each individual puppy.
If one puppy appears unwell, unusually small, has diarrhoea or differs noticeably from the rest of the litter, test that puppy individually. Do not rely on the pooled result alone.
Please do not submit the pooled puppy sample after day 25. Samples collected later may not accurately represent the litter and may not be suitable for this stage of the programme.
Each kit includes clear collection instructions for every stage. Please read the instructions before collecting each sample and follow the recommended timings carefully.
Our laboratory team examines each worm count sample using microscopy. We then provide a clear laboratory report and free after-test advice where required.

Each worm count report provides the findings from microscopic examination of the submitted faecal sample.
We identify and, where appropriate, quantify relevant gastrointestinal parasite eggs and oocysts detected in the sample.
Results are reported as eggs per gram (EPG) or oocysts per gram (OPG), where appropriate, together with a clear interpretation of the findings.
The bitch and puppy pooled samples are reported separately so you can review the findings from each stage of the breeding programme.
