Triple Saver Pack

Triple Pack – Worm Count, Lungworm & Giardia Test for Cats

Further information

Our Cat Triple Pack combines laboratory screening for gastrointestinal worms, feline lungworm and Giardia in one convenient package.

The three components use specialist laboratory methods to examine parasite eggs, relevant protozoa, respiratory parasite larvae and eggs, and Giardia antigen. As a result, the pack provides broader screening than a routine worm count alone.

What does the Cat Triple Pack include?

The package contains three laboratory tests:

  • Worm Count Test: Microscopy to identify gastrointestinal parasite eggs and relevant protozoa, with counts measured where appropriate.
  • Lungworm Test: Specialist screening for Aelurostrongylus abstrusus larvae and Eucoleus aerophilus eggs.
  • Giardia Antigen Test: Targeted antigen testing for the presence of Giardia in your cat’s faecal sample.

Who is this test suitable for?

Different parasites require different detection methods. Therefore, the Triple Pack may be particularly useful for:

  • Outdoor or hunting cats that eat prey.
  • Cats that may encounter slugs or snails.
  • Kittens, breeding cats or cats in multi-cat households.
  • Cats with previous intestinal parasite, lungworm or Giardia concerns.
  • Cats with intermittent soft stools where parasite screening is appropriate.

How does the testing process work?

Each kit contains clear instructions and separate collection materials for the relevant components.

The lungworm screen requires faecal material collected over three consecutive days. Meanwhile, the worm count and Giardia antigen test use their own samples, as explained in the kit.

After receipt, our laboratory team examines each sample using the appropriate method. Since the tests have different turnaround times, we may send the results separately.

Every Cat Triple Pack includes clear laboratory reports and free after-test advice where required.

Looking for Cryptosporidium screening too?

Our Feline QuadSave Parasite Test includes the same three components plus a Cryptosporidium antigen test.

Our Cat Triple Pack combines three laboratory methods to screen for gastrointestinal worms, feline lungworm and Giardia.

Gastrointestinal Worm Count

Our laboratory team uses microscopy to examine faecal material for the listed feline roundworms, hookworms, tapeworm eggs and Cystoisospora spp. Counts are provided as EPG or OPG where appropriate.

Feline Lungworm Screen

A separate pooled faecal sample collected over three consecutive days is examined using specialist larval detection for Aelurostrongylus abstrusus and faecal microscopy for Eucoleus aerophilus eggs.

Giardia Antigen Test

Targeted antigen testing checks the submitted faecal sample for Giardia antigen.

Giardia is an intestinal protozoan parasite that can be associated with soft stools and diarrhoea. However, some infected cats show no obvious signs.

Laboratory Reporting

Each component is reviewed and reported separately. Because the three tests use different laboratory procedures, results may be emailed at different times.

Every Triple Pack includes clear laboratory reports and free after-test advice where required.

Our Cat Triple Pack provides separate findings for gastrointestinal parasites, feline lungworm and Giardia.

Worm Count Results

The feline worm count report covers the following gastrointestinal parasite targets.

Gastrointestinal Nematodes

  • Toxocara cati (roundworm).
  • Toxascaris leonina (roundworm).
  • Uncinaria stenocephala (hookworm).
  • Ancylostoma tubaeforme (hookworm).

Gastrointestinal Cestodes

  • Dipylidium caninum (tapeworm).
  • Taeniid-type eggs (tapeworm).

Protozoa

  • Cystoisospora spp. (coccidia).

Quantitative and Qualitative Reporting

The listed nematode findings are quantified as eggs per gram (EPG), where appropriate. A result of <20 EPG is recorded as Below detectable limit.

Cestode eggs and Cystoisospora spp. are reported qualitatively, including whether they were seen in the submitted sample.

Visual Sample Analysis

The report may also record other artefacts observed in the submitted faecal sample.

Feline Lungworm Screen Results

Our extended feline respiratory parasite screen examines the faecal sample for the following targets:

  • Aelurostrongylus abstrusus – lungworm larvae.
  • Eucoleus aerophilus – respiratory capillarid eggs.

The laboratory report records the detection of relevant lungworm larvae or respiratory parasite eggs. Where the findings allow, we provide identification and explanatory comments.

A negative faecal result cannot completely exclude infection because larvae or eggs may be shed intermittently.

Giardia Antigen Results

We test for Giardia antigen and report the result as Detected or Not Detected.

Understanding Your Results

Parasites may shed eggs, oocysts or larvae intermittently. Therefore, a result below the detectable limit, or a qualitative result of none seen, does not completely exclude infection.

Our trained laboratory team reviews the findings before emailing the results. The different components may be reported separately as each is completed.

Clear laboratory reporting and free after-test advice are included where required.

Worm count: Our laboratory team completes, reviews and emails results within 24 hours of the sample arriving at our laboratory.

Giardia antigen: Our laboratory team completes, reviews and issues results within 24 hours of sample arrival.

Lungworm screen: This extended procedure takes longer than a routine worm count. Results are issued on the next working day following arrival at our laboratory.

Sample collection: The lungworm component requires faecal material collected over three consecutive days. Follow the collection and storage instructions supplied with your kit.

Because the components require different laboratory methods, results may be issued separately as each part is completed.

Use-by date: The Giardia antigen component must be used by the date shown on the laboratory request form. The kit has a minimum usage window of 6 weeks from the order date.

This kit is prepared for one cat and includes the materials needed to collect and return the required faecal sample or samples to our laboratory.

  • Recyclable padded return packaging.
  • Free Tracked 24 return postage.
  • Laboratory request forms and clear collection instructions.
  • Recyclable sample collection boxes supplied in resealable write-on bag(s).
  • Biodegradable secondary sealable bags.
  • Biodegradable natural wood sampling spoon.

For the lungworm component, the instructions explain how to collect faecal material over three consecutive days.
