Our Cryptosporidium Antigen Test is a targeted faecal test for dogs, cats and reptiles. It detects Cryptosporidium antigen in a sample submitted from one animal.
Cryptosporidium is a microscopic protozoan parasite that can infect the gastrointestinal tract of many animal species. Infection may be associated with diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal signs. However, some animals can carry the parasite without showing obvious signs of illness.
Our veterinary laboratory uses targeted antigen technology to test specifically for Cryptosporidium. This makes the test useful where Cryptosporidium is a particular concern or where a focused result is preferred instead of a broader parasite panel.
The Cryptosporidium antigen test requires a faecal sample from a single animal. Please do not pool samples from different animals, as pooling is not suitable for this test.
A positive result means that we detected Cryptosporidium antigen in the submitted sample. However, consider the result alongside the animal’s history, clinical signs and any other relevant findings.
Our trained laboratory team performs and reviews the antigen testing before issuing the result. In addition, every test includes a clear laboratory report and access to free after-test advice where required.
Turnaround time: Our laboratory team issues antigen results within 24 hours of the sample arriving at our laboratory.
Use-by date: The antigen component has a use-by date that must be followed. The kit provides a minimum usage window of 4 weeks from the point of order. Please return the sample before the date shown on the laboratory request form.
