Digestion Panel (Level 2)

Further information

Our Digestion Panel – Level 2 is a more detailed laboratory assessment for dogs where digestive function, pancreatic health or fat digestion may be a concern.

The panel includes an assessment that provides supportive information about the pancreas and its ability to produce digestive enzymes. It also includes a qualitative assessment of undigested lipids and other relevant digestive material within the faecal sample.

What does the Digestion Panel Level 2 assess?

  • Pancreatic digestive function: We assess markers in the faecal sample that provide supportive information about the enzyme-producing function of the pancreas.
  • Faecal lipids: We assess the sample for undigested lipid material that may provide additional information about fat digestion.
  • Microscopic digestion assessment: We examine relevant food material and other digestive findings visible within the faecal sample.

When might this test be useful?

This panel may be useful for dogs with persistent or recurrent digestive concerns. These may include changes in stool quality, unexplained weight loss, poor body condition or concerns about the digestion of dietary fat.

By combining an assessment of pancreatic digestive function with faecal microscopy, Level 2 provides more detailed supportive information than our Level 1 Digestion Panel.

Supportive laboratory information

The Digestion Panel does not provide a standalone diagnosis of a specific pancreatic or gastrointestinal condition. Consider the findings alongside the dog’s diet, appetite, body condition, stool quality, clinical history and any other relevant veterinary investigations.

If the findings indicate that further investigation may be appropriate, we recommend discussing the results with your veterinary surgeon.

Laboratory testing and results

Our trained laboratory team performs and reviews each component before issuing the results.

The laboratory report presents the pancreatic digestive assessment alongside the faecal lipid and microscopic digestion findings. Free after-test advice is available where required.

Our Digestion Panel – Level 2 combines a pancreatic-health component with a qualitative faecal lipid assessment for dogs.

The panel provides more detailed supportive information than the Level 1 Digestion Panel and may be useful where pancreatic function or fat digestion is a particular concern.

Our trained laboratory team examines the submitted sample using the appropriate laboratory methods and reviews the findings before issuing the report.

This test may be useful for dogs with persistent digestive signs, unexplained weight loss, poor body condition or concerns about the digestion of dietary fat.

The results should be considered alongside the dog’s clinical history, diet, stool quality and any other relevant veterinary investigations.

Clear laboratory results and free after-test advice are included.

The laboratory report combines an assessment of pancreatic digestive function with findings from the faecal digestion assessment.

We report:

  • Supportive findings relating to pancreatic digestive function
  • Qualitative assessment of faecal lipids
  • Relevant microscopic food material
  • Other relevant digestive findings identified during examination of the sample

The findings provide supportive information about digestion and pancreatic function. They do not provide a standalone diagnosis of a specific pancreatic or gastrointestinal condition.

Consider the results alongside the dog’s diet, body condition, stool quality, clinical history and veterinary advice where appropriate.

Digestion testing is completed, reviewed and issued within 24 hours of arrival into the laboratory.
