Our Reptile Parasite Test – Level 1 (Foundation) is a laboratory worm count for common gastrointestinal parasites found in reptiles.
Our trained laboratory team examines the faecal sample using microscopy. The test screens for nematode eggs, including pinworms, as well as coccidia and other relevant protozoa.
Where appropriate, we also assess the level of parasite eggs or oocysts detected. This helps provide useful information when monitoring parasite burdens over time.
The test may identify:
This panel is suitable for routine parasite monitoring, new animal checks and general gastrointestinal parasite screening.
For many healthy reptiles, testing once or twice a year may be suitable. However, testing frequency can vary depending on species, age, environment, previous parasite history and veterinary advice.
Every test includes a clear laboratory report and free after test advice where required.

The report includes findings from microscopic examination of the submitted faecal sample.
Microscopy: We identify and, where appropriate, quantify relevant nematodes, including ascarids, hookworms, pinworms and trichurid-type eggs. We also report cestodes (tapeworms), coccidia and relevant protozoal findings, including commensal ciliated protozoa such as Balantidium.
Findings are reported according to the reptile species submitted and the relevance of each organism.
Wormcount testing is completed, reviewed and issued within 24 hours of arrival into the laboratory.
