The Canine Diarrhoea Screen is a targeted panel designed to investigate the common causes of diarrhoea in dogs. It screens for a range of parasitic and bacterial pathogens that may be responsible for gastrointestinal symptoms, providing a comprehensive picture to support clinical decision-making. It is most appropriate for dogs with ongoing or recurrent diarrhoea where the cause has not been identified.
Yes. Lungworm cannot be detected on a standard worm egg count and requires a dedicated larval detection screen. Wormcount’s lungworm test uses the Baermann technique to detect live larvae in the faecal sample and is available as a standalone test or as part of the combined worm count and lungworm kit. Given that lungworm is now confirmed to be present in every county in the UK and is often asymptomatic, routine lungworm screening is strongly recommended.
For a cat with diarrhoea, the Feline Parasite and Bacteria Screen is Wormcount’s most comprehensive investigative option, covering intestinal worms, protozoal parasites, and bacterial pathogens. Where a more targeted investigation is needed, individual PCR tests for Giardia, Tritrichomonas foetus, Campylobacter, or Cryptosporidium can be ordered separately. Wormcount’s clinical team can advise on the most appropriate approach based on the animal’s history and symptoms.
The process involves three steps: order your test kit online; collect your animal’s sample using the instructions provided and return it to the laboratory using the free 24-hour tracked delivery included in your kit; and receive your detailed PDF results by email. For most tests, results are issued the same working day the sample arrives in the laboratory. Some tests have a longer turnaround, as indicated on the product page. Free clinical advisory aftercare is available with every result.
Test kits can be ordered directly through the Wormcount website, which is available 24 hours a day. Payment can be made by debit or credit card. Orders can also be placed by telephone during office hours. All orders placed before 3pm on a working day are dispatched the same day via Royal Mail 24.

If an urgent same-day screen is required, please contact the Wormcount office directly to discuss options as we may be able to accept direct sample submission.
Each Wormcount test kit includes a sample collection pot, full instructions for collecting the correct sample, a laboratory request form, and a prepaid 24-hour tracked return envelope for sending the sample back to the laboratory. No additional postage is required; tracked return delivery to the lab is included in the price of every kit as standard.
Collect a fresh faecal sample from your animal, ideally the first passing of the day, and place it directly into the collection pot provided. Do not collect from samples that have been lying on the ground for more than a couple of minutes. Fill the pot as fully as possible to give the most accurate result. Full instructions are included in every kit; if in doubt, Wormcount’s team is always happy to advise.
Wormcount recommends filling the collection pot as fully as possible. Sending an insufficient amount of sample can compromise the accuracy of the result, as there may not be enough material to allow adequate analysis. The collection pot holds up to 10–15g of material when full.
The first passing of the day is recommended for a standard worm egg count sample. For lungworm screens, which require collection over three consecutive days, the first passing of each day should be collected and stored at room temperature until posting on the final day.
